Afternoon tea is a memorable occasion and a delightfully friendly experience to cherish with others as delicious food and teas are faultlessly presented. Melodic harp music or soothing piano is featured during high tea service and performed daily by our different talented musicians.

Favorite Brown Palace memory: The tea staff accommodating a last minute request from a speaker on a multi-city tour who requested an activity to help her slow down, relax, enjoy the company of friends and come away with a memorable experience from Denver CO. It worked!

Jimmy West

Jimmy West

Holiday brunches in Prospectors Suite and lobby tea.

Short Bio: Jimmy is a classical trained pianist who developed a taste for jazz improvisation while earning his degree in music. He played the top showrooms from coast to coast as part of the Las Vegas styled band of Rowan & Martin, well known comedians from the hit TV series Laugh In. On an entertainment tour for the US Department of Defense he performed in Canada, The Caribbean, the Mediterranean and Alaska.

How long have I worked at the hotel: First gig was over twenty years ago in, would you believe, in the employee cafeteria for an employee appreciation party. My music was well received and Winterset has booked my trio for the holiday brunches for well over 15 years. My current players are Rex Spease on Sax and Ed Stephen on guitar and I fill in as a solo for lobby cocktails, Ship Tavern and Ellyngton’s. There’s always been a strong pride from the hotel staff in how they take care of the guests and we’re glad to be a part of it.

Favorite Brown Palace memory: A year ago, during cocktail hour in the lobby I spotted a couple as they were seated, he with flowers in hand. The staff brought out champagne and with a change in music I set the ambience of the atrium as he pulled out the ring, got down on one knee and asked for her hand in marriage. Upon departure they both came over to the piano and thanked me.  I asked if they had a special song and they said no. “While you were proposing I was playing ‘Unforgettable’ so I recommend that becomes your song”.

Western Underground

Western Underground

In the late 1980s, former world champion bareback rider, turned country singer, Chris LeDoux, was preparing to throw everything into a music career, which had long played a distant second to his love of rodeo, and those bareback horses. His search for a full time touring band that could help to create his new musical vision produced a unique group of talented musicians, which he named Western Underground. Over the next 16 years they became the sound, and the drive, behind Chris's famed rodeo rock and roll, and they remained with him until his death in March 2005.

Abbey Road Band

Abbey Road

The Abbey Road Band is made up of four superlative musicians, who share the passion of those Beatles fans who witnessed that first wave of “Beatlemania” in the early sixties. The band understands the audiences who were swept up in the wave of Beatles music from the first chord on the “Ed Sullivan Show” to the last song on “Let it Be” and beyond. The Abbey Road Band doesn’t wear Beatle wigs or period costumes, they have something far better. They were there. They lived the Beatles explosion and have dedicated their musical lives to recapture that perfect music and that perfect moment.
